Chantal Louw  |  Jewelry

I was born and raised in sunny South Africa, and moved to the United States in 2004. I’ve always been a very creative person, and used to spend hours in my dad’s garage, building and creating anything from science projects to new inventions I dreamed up before falling asleep at night.

My jewelry making career started out purely by accident. While still living in South Africa, I had an event to go to, and couldn’t find jewelry to go with the outfit I wanted to wear. On my way out of the mall, I walked passed a bead store, and decided to go in and look around. I found some beads that I liked, and decided to make my own necklace. That was the start of it all! I finally had a practical outlet for my creative energies.

For many years I only made jewelry for myself, but friends and colleagues eventually persuaded me to start selling my pieces, and in time Carlouw Designs was born. My jewelry has changed dramatically over the years, and I now make a very diverse range of jewelry. I am always trying to come up with new ideas, methods, and designs. I am constantly striving for uniqueness. I believe each person is different and unique, and I endeavor to create items that are as diverse as people are.
