Khandra Howard  |  Ceramic

I began working with clay in 2003. My ceramics education has just begun and I will continue to educate myself through classes, books, experimenting and learning every day from the people around me. Additional education: Washington University St. Louis, B.S. Electrical Engineering; Howard University, MS Computer Science.

The creative power of ceramics has enabled me to express my ideas in many different ways. I am drawn to clay because of the infinite ways it can be used, treated and shaped. My work is a continuing process of exploration, experimentation and evolution of style. I am influenced by different sources but the texture and patterns in natural and organic forms are a particular source of inspiration for me.  I also draw inspiration from African textiles, African art & culture, everyday life, colors, nature, sea life, insects, vegetation, random shapes & patterns, woodworking and the unpredictable nature of clay.  Inspiration is never a problem … I find it in everything.
