Julie Hampton | Soap
Raised on a vegetable farm in Wisconsin, Julie has always worked with her hands. She learned how to knit when she was ten and resumed knitting at age 37 after finishing her MFA in creative writing. She believes in the balance of thoughtful action and engaged reflection. The creative use of wool in her hand and needle felted objects is a necessary counterweight to her personal writing. When she’s spent too much time felting, she knows it’s time to do some writing.
She’s drawn to working with various states of wool (roving, yarn, felt) because they can be turned into practical and beautiful items to be worn or used around the house. And best of all, wool can be recycled or repurposed into something new many times over.
