This series of paintings were inspired by the suburban painted homes of post-war Hungary. The Hungarian "cube" homes were built by the government, they were single story square homes that were built as a cheap housing solution and monotonously replicated through almost every village. The people rebelled against the communist regime in the 1950's by painting the exterior of the homes in playful folk patterns and bold colors. Each home evokes true freedom of expression and individuality during a time of repression.
