Reception for the artist:
First Friday August 3rd, from 7-9
Laura Spalding Best presents an exhibition of new work entitled Vanity. Made up of over 200 artworks, this lavish exhibition dissects the landscape and infrastructure of the Sonoran Desert and its cities through oil paintings on domestic objects. Mostly antiques, these refined, feminine objects act as vessels for the painted landscape. Using visual metaphors, art historical references, and portraits of utility poles, Best obscures the line between the promised oasis and the tantalizing mirage and questions which idea of paradise is real and which is imagined.
